Winter Home Energy Efficiency Tips for Cozy Savings

As winter settles in, keeping your home warm and energy-efficient is key — both for comfort and for your wallet. Here are a few quick, high-impact ways to stay cozy and save on heating costs this season.

Keep Your HVAC and Furnace in Top Shape

Your heating system works hard in cold weather — make sure it’s running efficiently.

Schedule a professional HVAC tune-up each year to clean, inspect, and test your system.

Replace air filters every 1-3 months to maintain airflow and efficiency.

Listen for unusual noises or uneven heat — small issues can quickly become big repairs.

Replace Thermostat Batteries

A simple but often overlooked task: replace batteries in your digital or programmable thermostat every winter.

Weak batteries can cause inconsistent heating or system shutdowns.
If you haven’t yet, consider upgrading to a smart thermostat; they adapt to your schedule and can cut heating bills by up to 10%.

Seal Leaks and Drafts

Don’t let your heat escape!
Use caulk or weatherstripping to seal gaps around windows and doors.
Close fireplace dampers when not in use and use draft stoppers under doors.
Even small fixes can noticeably reduce your energy bill.

Use Natural Warmth

Open curtains on sunny days to let the heat in, and close them at night to keep it there.
A simple step that makes your home more comfortable for free.

A few minutes of maintenance can add up to a warmer, more energy-efficient home all winter long.
Not only will you save money, but keeping your HVAC system healthy also boosts your home’s long-term value something buyers love to see.

Hey Neighbor!

Hi Neighbors,

As a California native, I know how deeply the events in our Golden State affect us all. From the earth’s tremors felt across the San Francisco Bay to Van Nuys, to the ongoing challenges of homelessness, especially among the brave Veterans who have served our country, we are no strangers to facing hardships together.

Wildfires have become an unfortunate reality of life in California, and 2025 has begun with devastating blazes that have displaced thousands of our fellow Californians. Currently, four fires are burning across our beautiful state, threatening homes, communities, and lives.

In these moments, it is more important than ever to come together as a community. Let us reach out to our loved ones, neighbors, friends, and even strangers. A simple act of kindness—like checking in, offering support, or lending a helping hand—can mean the world to someone in need.

Reflecting on the times when we’ve shared moments of care, like giving a neighbor a cup of sugar, reminds us of the strength and beauty of our community. These small gestures of compassion build the bonds that carry us through the most difficult days.

Together, as the resilient people of the Golden State, let us continue to love and uplift one another. My thoughts and prayers are with every Californian during this time.
